MeXkey3 Quick Start

Unboxing Checklist

  1. One MeXkey3 device

Step 1: Power On

  1. Connect to USB power to start.
  2. Briefly press the power button.
  3. If it fails to start, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds to force a restart.

Step 2: Set PIN

  1. Enter the PIN twice consecutively.

Step 3: Connect to Computer

  1. Connect to the computer via USB.
  2. Unlock the MeXkey3 and enable USB mode in the settings.
  3. Copy the Kdbx file to the MeXkey3 USB drive (Detailed instructions for Kdbx password database).
  4. Open the MeXkeyConfig.txt file on the MeXkey3 USB drive and enter the Kdbx file password in the corresponding location.
  5. Eject the MeXkey3 USB drive, then disable USB mode in the MeXkey3 settings.
  6. Click Reload Database in the settings.

Step 4: Connect Browser Extension

  1. Install the corresponding browser extension: ChromeKeePass/EdgeKeePass, or search for the extension by name in your browser's extension store.
  2. Open the extension settings.
  3. Enter 172.16.8.1 in the Hostname / IP address field, leave the Port as the default 19455, and click APPLY.
  4. In the extension settings, click CONNECT to connect to MeXkey3.
  5. MeXkey3 will prompt you about the connection request; click confirm to connect successfully.
  6. After a successful connection, MeXkey3 will save the browser extension related data and will automatically connect next time. A maximum of 5 browser data entries can be saved.

Step 5: Firmware Upgrade

  1. Connect to the computer via USB.
  2. Unlock the MeXkey3 and enable USB mode in the settings.
  3. Copy the firmware update file to the MeXkey3 USB drive. Ensure there are no other firmware files on the drive, and do not rename the firmware file.
  4. Eject the MeXkey3 USB drive, then disable USB mode in the MeXkey3 settings, but keep the USB power connected.
  5. Click Firmware Upgrade in the settings.
  6. Wait a moment for the device to scan and detect the firmware update file.
  7. Confirm the firmware version when the upgrade prompt appears.
  8. After confirmation, the upgrade will take some time; please do not operate the device.
  9. Once the upgrade is complete, the device will automatically reboot into the new system.
Note

By default, MeXkey3 will prompt you every time the extension requests data.

You can disable this prompt by enabling Trust Browser in the MeXkey3 settings.

Note

MeXkey3 will not initiate a USB connection while locked. When connected to a computer in the locked state, no device will be displayed. The device will only be recognized after unlocking. MeXkey3 will not disconnect an existing USB connection when it goes into clock lock screen mode.

Note

The USB partition of MeXkey3 is formatted as FAT by default. If you need to use it on a mobile phone, you can manually format it to exFAT.
